What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?

Wednesday is finally here!  I love to join other craft queens and visit work desks around the world.  You can take a peek or join yourself by going to Artist Julia Dunnit's beautiful blog Stamping Ground.

I am working away from my desk.

This is our craft table where we have the tools and supplies for several projects.  My family is still making decisions about Halloween costumes, I'll have to take pictures of the mess that will be left after that;).  Yes, that is a gong against the wall.  I got it years ago and just love it.  We use it randomly for fun, the sound is actually very soothing.

My handsome son was crafting with me, he is so bright and fun to be around.  

I have been using my lapdesk in my super chair.  I got the tray at JoAnn's and LOVE it.  It is just the right size.  I was doing more experimenting with clay.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?

Yea!  Wednesday is here!  I love to visit other desks around the world and the only place to do that is at artist Julia Dunnit's beautiful blog Stamping Ground.  Every Wednesday she hosts an international party full of amazing artists sharing their work space.  You can go and take a look or even join in.

I have been working away from my desk.  Here is my workspace right now.

This is the tray of supplies that I use to make my trees.  I converted the box from an Ikea wall clock, the shape was just right.  I can sit with it on my lap and make a tree while watching TV.  I love the rich colors.

I was told by a friend trying to help that my photos are a little boring.  She suggested I use props to spice things up.  So I thought I would use my husband's lion, but it didn't photograph well for me.  It came out a bit blurry each time.  I really do prefer the light box.

I thought this tree of photos would make a good prop.  I did not realize until editing that the photo of my husband and I just behind the trees looks not quite right.  It was taken years ago and we were in a photo booth and took gag photos, when you see them all together this one is funny.  But alone...... Ok, won't be using this photo. 

See how much nicer the lighting in the light box is.  I thought a globe would be a smart prop.  But you can't really see the earrings well.  Yikes, this prop thing is a little harder than I expected.  I am going to have Isabel and Sebastian gather a few props so we can get some practice.  Isabel has a good eye for photos.

Does my hand count as a prop?  Using props effectively is definitely a work in progress.

Here is a close up of my desk.  I have been brainstorming about what I can put together with the lace glass gems I made.  I made the two small dark red ones into magnets.  I think I will make a few of them into pendants.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?

Yea Wednesday is here!  On Wednesday's I like to join a very cool international group of bloggers who share photos of their desks and what they are working on.  You can take a peek yourself or even join in by going to Artist Stamper, Julia Dunnit's lovely blog Stamping Ground.

My desk is pretty empty tonight.  You can see a new tiny tree half way done in the lower right corner and some bead spiders I made today.  I also have a few larger stone and glass beads that I am trying to decide what to do with.  The two green glass leaves are still there and they are my favorites.

A few WOYWWers have asked about my light box.  I use it to take pictures of small things I make (and as a desk lamp sometimes).  The light is a clamp on utility lamp that you can find in any hardware store.  I will show you an example of a photo from the box, a tiny tree.  You can see my newest tiny trees in the box ready for some photos.

This is the red Tiny Tree that you see in the light box photos above.  I have limited access to natural light, so the box has been revolutionary.  If you are interested in making a light box, I got my instructions free from The Digital Photography School.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?

I do love when Wednesday rolls around and I can peek at work desks from around the world.  It is a great way to get to know a lovely group of artists.  You can participate by joining the link party hosted by Artist Stamper Julia Dunnit on her cool blog Stamping Ground.  Or you can stop by Julia's blog to get the list and take a peek at a few desks.

Here is my desk tonight.  I got a few things at JoAnns and am playing with each of the new little items.  I got two faceted green glass leaves that I love but I can't decide how I will use.

I am still working on Halloween trees as you can see in my light box.  I am also working on a few special trees that I haven't finished so I put rubber bands on them.  Keeps the beads from falling off.

My favorite thing I've been working on lately is a wire and bead bee.  It is a gift for a friend.  I love the little antennae.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?

I love Wednesdays because I get to join in a round the world journey.  Julia Dunnit, a devoted and talented artist stamper, hosts this hop on her cool blog stamping ground, where international bloggers share their desks and current projects.  Here is what my desk looks like on this lovely mid September Tuesday Night/Wednesday.

 I'm really trying to embrace the spirit of WOYWW and leave my desk well used.  This is what it looks like before I tidy it up.  I love looking over the little bits and pieces and putting things together.

I am working on a interesting mix of projects.

Mother of Pearl Bead Chips make my latest tiny tree very special. I think this is one of my prettiest.

I've also made a few pendants made of fabric with unexpected and charming skulls.

This is my smallest branch and moon pendant.  I love how tiny it is, just a bit bigger than a penny.

I have been pretty productive so far this week, Thank You for taking a look at my desk and a few of my latest projects.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?!

It feels like the week is flying by.

My desk is pretty clean, I have a lot of small things and if I don't keep a bit of order I just can't find anything.  My desk is pretty busy though, with a lot of stuff.  I am one of those visual people who likes to see everything.  I also get a real boost seeing my work so keep hanging things up.  I have several metal pieces on the wall and use different types of magnets to hang things.  

At first I wasn't sure about it, but now I love my glass desk.  I have a glass shelf unit that mostly matches the desk, right next to it so I have extra space.  Not sure if you can see her, but on the far right is my glass head.  She is a prized possession my husband gave me.  

 I have been working on Halloween wire projects and some Christmas ornament prototypes.  I have a lot of fun bending wire.

Here is a look at some of our finished Halloween necklaces.  My daughter Isabel made her first necklace, the little glass vial one at the top of the photo.  She got a yellow rose for her birthday, she was born in Texas.  She saved the rose and dried it out; then she broke up one of the dried petals into little pieces and put it in a vial and included a little tag with a star.  The perfect necklace for my little Texas rose.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!?!

Since I started participating in What's On Your Workdesk, I can't wait for Wednesdays.  I look forward to seeing other desks and what everyone is working on.

Since last week I made a few of my trees.  I was trying new techniques and getting a good feel for new wire I haven't used before.   I even had time for a Christmas prototype.  Is  it too early to discuss it?  Should I at least wait for Halloween to pass for crying out loud?

My tree making tray is there on the right and I am using a scrapbooking page as a work surface for my jewelry making experiments.  My mini lightbox holds the newest trees I am preparing to photograph. 

Lately I have been thinking about sweater chains.  Did you ever have one?  It is an old fashioned piece that is usually a chain or two with clips at both ends.  You hook it to both sides of an open sweater or jacket.  I got one in high school and loved wearing it.  I want to make one and found clips that will work.  I used a bunch of brass pieces that I like.  I also wanted to incorporate a few color beads.  Here is what my first try looks like: 

I wore it yesterday and loved it!!  I am going to make a few more, Isabel even wants one.

I am delighted by the warm and friendly community of WOYWW bloggers.  I love seeing the desks, getting to peek into such creative and interesting lives.  I also appreciate each and every comment.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!

I am excited to participate in my second What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.  It is pretty neat, but my desk has my wire working tools and supplies.

(I accidentilly linked last week's post to this week's WOYWW linky list.  You can see my 09/05/2012 post here.  Sorry about that.)

I am using the mini light box to take pictures of my work in progress Halloween trees and a finished pendant.  I also have the green wire out to try a few Christmas Tree prototypes.  I am excited, if I get started early I think I can have a great holiday season.

I love my black plastic caddy, I am able to keep a lot of supplies and tools in it.

Here are the Halloween trees that I'm still working on, I'll eventually add them to the shop.  I think the trees look interesting without leaves.

This is a Halloween variation on the Tree of Life.  I love the moon, it is a disk shaped jasper bead.

I want to Thank everyone who stopped by last week.  Especially Julia Dunnit, the great host who invented and continues to host Work desk Wednesday on her blog Stamping Ground.  I was moved by the number of warm and engaging comments I received.

What's On Your Workdesk?

I found a great blog called Stamping Ground and the owner Julia Dunnit invented "What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?"  Basically it is an opportunity to make new friends and share what your desk looks like at this point in the week.  A great group of bloggers link up on Stamping Ground with a post and photo about their work desk.  I followed the links a few times and really enjoyed meeting new people and seeing their cool desks.  Now I want to join in and share my desk.

My desk is pretty clean.  I took the photos last night so they are a bit dark and my darn lamp just wants to super shine.  You can see my slinky collection under the lamp.  I made a new mini lightbox that I can take anywhere and use while I sit.  I am still learning how to use it, but am having fun experimenting with different objects.  I am making a new tree, I use a little white tray so I can see the dropped beads easily.

My desk top is made of glass, that's why the surface looks odd, there are reflections and you can see through it.  I must be the last person that has black desk accessories, It seems everyone has white everything.

I cleaned an egg carton to use as storage for my tiny trees.  I am taking new photos of them with the light box.  I wish I could fit my desk in the lightbox;).

I took the last two photos using my mini light box.  They are much better then the photos I was getting before.
